Meet to tap new talent for state

Game will also help raise funds for development

THE fifth and final leg of the PSDC 3-On-3 Streetball Challenge will be held at the Penang Skills Development Centre open car park in Bayan Lepas on Dec 18.

Penang Basketball Association (PBA) president Ooi Khoon Yeong said the grand finale of the series will bring the curtains down on PBA's activities for the year.

He said the goal of organising the PSDC 3-On-3 Streetball Challenge is to encourage and promote basketball among the youngsters and also to keep them away from unhealthy habits and undesirable elements.

"It is also a process to tap new talent for the state's age group teams and also for the senior team which will be seeing some players retiring soon.

"The series was also organised to raise funds for the association's coffers in aid of its development programme.

"The competition at the same time attracts non-Chinese to participate in basketball," he said.

The organisers have introduced a new category -- the Boys' Under-13 to the series which has the Boys' Under-15 and Under-18, the Industrial Park's Men's Open and the Women's Open.

The prizes, apart from other sponsor' products, for the Boys' Under-13, Under-15, Under-18 and Women's Open are, champions -- RM480 cash and RM600 Pallas vouchers, runners-up RM360 cash and RM400 Pallas vouchers and third RM240 cash and RM200 Pallas vouchers.

For the Industrial Park Men's Open category, the cash prize is RM600, RM450 and RM300 for the champions, runners-up and third respectively.

Other attractions in the final leg will include "shooting" and "slam dunk" competitions which offer cash prizes, cash vouchers from Kaffa and Hotlink goodies.

Lucky draw prizes include Isonic 32" LCD television, B-Suite room vouchers, Nike shoes vouchers, Pallas shoes, Kaffa cash vouchers, mobile phones and Molten GE7 basketball.
